Bringing the Outdoors Inside

Many of us love the outdoors, and so we try to bring that feeling of being close to nature inside our homes. In the design world, we call this Biophilic design.

“Biophilia is the term coined by the Harvard naturalist Dr. Edward O. Wilson to describe what he saw as humanity's "innate tendency to focus on life and lifelike processes, and to be drawn toward nature, to feel an affinity for it, a love, a craving.” - Webster’s dictionary

COVID has radically changed our lives in many ways, and it has forced us to spend more time indoors. As a result, we have brought the outdoors…in!

We’ve seen an increase in house plants, natural wood tones, textural elements, and subdued color palettes become more mainstream everywhere you look.

Sherwin Williams 2022 Color of the Year Evergreen Fog is a great way to bring this “outdoor feeling” inside.

Sherwin Williams describes this shade as “a versatile and calming hue, a chameleon color of gorgeous green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue. It's a simple but sophisticated wash of beautiful, organic color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade.”

We recommend trying this beautiful shade on a feature wall (one wall in the space you're thinking of painting) if you are new to the painting experience. If you want an adventure or are an experienced painter, jump in and paint your entire space! You can not go wrong with this shade!! If you’re still unsure how to bring this shade into your home, use the paint swatch from Sherwin Williams and color match to find pillows, drapes, rugs, and other textiles that have this hue to bring in smaller samples of this color into your space.
